Ivory Coast crowned African Champions

Ivory Coast pulls a magical comeback to beat Nigeria in a thrilling match in Abidjan.

Emerse Faé side had to battle it harder after the super eagles took an early lead from their skipper Ekong through a free header. 

A spectacular equaliser deep in the second half from Kessie gave the Ivorians huge hope to keep on pressing for more. He becomes the first Ivorian player to score in AFCON finals in the 90 minutes.

Nigerians tried to neutralize their opponent but they were unstoppable. A through pass to Adingra enabled him to deliver a quality ball to Haller who managed to put into the net for a second winner goal. 

The Ivorians makes a history having qualified as best losers behind Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. They went ahead to eliminate Senegal in the round of 16 through a dramatic penalty shoot 5-4. 

In the quarter finals they beat Mali through a comeback with a late goal from a youngster Diakite. They eliminated Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) through Haller's solo goal to reach the finals. 

The win for Ivorians was well deserved for sticking together despite departure of their initial coach Jean-Louis Gasset who was sacked over the poor performance in their initial group stage matches. 

Nigerians will have to reflect back and see what went wrong for bottling up in the finals which they took an early lead. A silver wear is what they had to settle for after the 90th minute whistle.

On the other hand South Africa managed to get 3rd place position after beating Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) through a penalty shootout.
